WHAT GIFTS CAN WE GIVE?

Greatest Gift2

During this mad, hectic month of shopping and wrapping and seeking for a ‘postcard’
perfect holiday, let’s just stop, and take a deep breath and THINK. What should this season
really signify and how can we carry the positive aspects all through the year? We know that the
idea of giving gifts is important. After all, God gifted us with his Son. Jesus, the long awaited
Messiah, suffering servant, meek and mild.

In the song, ”Little Drummer Boy”, he states, ‘I have no gift to bring…I’ll play my drum
for Him’. And truthfully, we have no gift to give either. So what are we to do? We are to imitate
Christ. While we can do this in several ways, one way I’d like to focus on is having a servant’s
attitude. Now, I am not thinking of a person who is beaten and denigrated, but one who
lovingly cares for those that need help in a variety of ways. This is generally referred to as a
servant personality. As Christians, we have been given many gifts and talents. Some in greater
degree, while others are in lesser amounts. We all can, in our own way, be a servant to others.

Some of the behaviors that exemplify a servant heart are: Empathy, Selflessness,
Humility, Compassion, Honesty and Patience. Have you taken time to look around you at
Church during a function, meeting, and have noticed how servant-like our congregation is?
God has truly blessed us! The next time you are in church, for any meeting or event, stop and
watch all our people who are quick to make our Church welcoming and warm to members and
visitors alike.

I have noticed: hugs being joyfully given, folks asking how they can pray for another,
trash being picked up, dishes being washed and put away, kind words or smiles to visitors,
interacting with the youngsters, and much more. Can you see how God has touched us,
helped us to reach out to others, leave our own particular comfort zone to serve on a Board or
committee? If you have, please offer a prayer of thanks to the greatest Giver of gifts.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17

May you see how much God has given you and to be that good servant who turned a
few talents in to many. May you have a blessed Christmas and be a blessing to others as well.
