To Seek and to Save

to seek and to save

Daily Reflections on the Road to the Cross

If you’d like a timely daily devotional to enjoy especially during the Easter Season called Lent (this year, forty days from 3/2/22 – 4/17/22) let me highly recommend the small book, To Seek and to Save by Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson. He is a Scottish theologian widely known in Reformed Christian circles for his preaching, teaching, writing, and editorial work.

To Seek and to Save is just one of fifty-some books he has written, edited or contributed.

I know that within reformed churches, there seems to be much debate over what to say about Lent. We know that we are not commanded to celebrate it explicitly in the Bible, but it can be argued that it is a useful time to help us privately remember and focus on the suffering and death of Christ, and be refreshed in the good news of His journey to the cross.

Each day (except Sundays) starting 3/2/22 begins a forty-day period, divided into six-weeks to experience a personal journey to Jerusalem that helps his reader privately remember and focus on the suffering and death of Christ, and be refreshed in the good news of His journey to the cross and then ends on Easter Sunday – 4/17/22.

  • Week one – Conversations on the Way
  • Second week – Meeting the Confused
  • Week three- The Path of Discipleship
  • Week four – Friends and Enemies
  • Fifth week – Towards the Cross
  • Holy Week and Easter Sunday – The Final Destination

Using the Gospel of Luke, starting in chapter 9 verse 51 and moving forward the author invites his readers to; Read a passage of Luke’s Gospel; Read a short meditation from his book; and Reflect on some thought-provoking questions.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

Below is a very brief video clip by Sinclair B. Ferguson to introduce the book of forty day devotional reflections from Jesus on His Journey on the road to Jerusalem.
