LRPC Happenings: from the Bulletin of 2/23/14

Categories: Blog,Happenings

If you weren’t able to make it to church this week (or if you were and were trying to remember something!) we’ve posted the sermon on the website. In fact, every Sunday afternoon that days sermon is posted on the church website!

Plans are underway to again come together and prepare our hearts on Wednesdays during the Lenten Season.  This year we will alternate Lenten dinners and luncheons. Lenten dinners will be simple dinner meals at 6:30 p.m., beginning on Wednesday, March 5.  The meal and a devotional time will precede the regular prayer meeting. On alternate Wednesday, beginning with March 12, we will have a Lenten luncheon from 12-1 p.m. There will also be a devotional time at the luncheons. Please consider coming to as many of these meals as you can. Sign up in the narthex for as many meals as you can attend. Signup sheets for anyone who would like to provide soup, salad, bread or sandwiches for these services are also in the narthex.

Pastor Milligan will be starting a new seven week class for people interested in joining LRPC. The class will begin on Sunday,
March 2 at 9:30 a.m. and will be held in the Church House. You do not have to make a formal commitment to membership to join this class. Come to find out about the beliefs and organization of the Presbyterian Church in America and Loch Raven Presbyterian Church. If you are interested in attending, please speak to Pastor Milligan or call the church office.

The Women’s Ministry team of LRPC will be holding a book club discussion on Monday, March 3, at 7:00 the Church House.  The book to be discussed is Gods and Kings by Lynn Austin.  Please see Eileen Royce to get a copy of the book if you haven’t read it yet.

Please send all items for the March edition of the Loch Raven Press to the office by 9:00 AM on Tuesday, February 25.

Please use the bulletin inserts to invite family, friends or neighbors to the annual Men’s Class dinner. Remember to sign up on the sheet in the narthex, or call the church office if you plan to attend. Space will be limited, so sign up soon!

Thank you to all the folks who have signed up to help with the Toddlers group.  There are still some slots to be filled if you’re interested in serving in this capacity. No advanced preparation is needed.  If you’d be interested in committing to one Sunday a month as a helper, please see Jo Ann Beck and/or sign the sheet in the narthex.

There will also be a need in a future quarter for a teacher for the primary aged children during the Sunday School hour.  If you’d be interested in teaching this age group, please talk to Jo Ann Beck.

Please sign the sheets in the narthex if you are able to attend the rescheduled Dwell Richly marriage seminar. The new dates are Friday, March 14, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our instructors will still be Pastor Chris and Linda Peeler. Fliers with the new dates on them are available for you in the narthex to distribute to friends and neighbors who might not have been able to attend in February.

Next Sunday, Pastor Milligan will preach from 2 Kings 17:18-20. The title of his sermon will be “Exile.” The hymns next week will be #75, “O Father, You Are Sovereign” and #691, “It Is Well with My Soul.”
